Mr. James B. “Pancho” Helm, age 83 of Birmingham, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at his home.
Born on the 4th of July, 1942 in San Diego, California, he lived most of his life in Alabama. He graduated from Phillips High school and later attended Samford University. Pancho proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, where he received his Honorable Discharge after his service. After serving in the Navy, he had a long career working at David Tire as a Wholesale Manager. Pancho enjoyed spending time at the family Lakehouse on Lake Martin. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching Alabama Football and Atlanta Braves games.
He is survived by his daughters, Tonya Helm and Lori Milliner (Danny), his brother, Larry Helm (Glenda), his nephew, Heath Helm (Amy), his nieces, Jenni Helm Jones (Jeff) and Tevis Clark Karkoski (Michael), his great-niece, Madison Helm Pinyan (Chase), his great-nephews, Mason Helm, Bradley and Jackson Jones, and a special part of the family, Sonya Crumpton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Doris C. Helm.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Pancho’s Birthday on Saturday, July 4, 2026 to honor and remember him.
