James Cranford Dobbs, Jr., known to many as Jimmy, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025.
He was born in Athens, Alabama, and graduated from Athens High School. He later moved to Birmingham, where he built his life and career.
James was known for his love of horses and for his exceptional skill as a boot maker and shoe repairman. He took great pride in his craft and was respected for the quality of his work and the dedication he brought to it. In later years, he also worked as a carpenter, continuing his lifelong commitment to skilled labor.
He enjoyed music and singing and was a devoted fan of Alabama football, often seen wearing an Alabama shirt and hat.
He is survived by his children: Renee Stanford, Jay Dobbs, Ivy Wilson (Stephen), and Hailey Jones (Nick); his grandchildren: Hayden and Makenna Stanford, Davis and Noah Dobbs, Hannah and Trey Wilson, and Evan and Gabe Jones; his sisters, Patsy Hargrove and Mildred Latimer; and several other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Margaret Dobbs.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Trussville.
