James Brightwell

James Brightwell, age 93, of Birmingham passed away on December 13, 2022. He was born on January 27, 1929 to Rufus and Alberta Brightwell and grew up in West End. He was a Korean War veteran. James married the love of his life, Betty Rhea Gay in 1954. James retired from South Central Bell after 40 years of service where he served as a lineman and retired as an Architectural Engineer.
He is survived by his loving children; Mark Brightwell (Gwen), Wendy Mabry, Cindy Moor (Thomas) and Eric Brightwell; granddaughter, Amanda Boyd (Adam) and great grandchildren, Brooks Mabry and Lauren James Boyd, and granddaughter, Lisa Hendrix, and great grandchildren, Carley Morgan (DJ) and Benjamin Hendrix. He also leaves behind a host of loved ones and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty Rhea Gay Brightwell; his parents; his sister, Eleanor Brightwell; a grandson, Greg Pennington, and a son-in-law, Glenn Mabry.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16th at 12:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with visitation held one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17th at Forest Crest Cemetery.
