Jackson Kendrick, Sr.

April 16, 1933 — February 18, 2024

Mr. Jackson Henry Kendrick, Sr., 90, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on February 18th, 2024. While it is so difficult to say goodbye to someone we love with all our hearts, we find comfort in his heavenly reunion with his wife, Jerry Ann Kendrick and his youngest son, Jerry “Dale” Kendrick, Sr.

Born on April 16th, 1933, in Birmingham, Alabama, Jack was the son of the late Austin and Ada Kendrick. Growing up alongside his four brothers, Lloyd, James, Harry, and Roger, and eight sisters, Pat, Polly, Louise, Peggy, Mina, Shirley, Barbara, and Glenda, he was deeply rooted in the bonds of family.

Jack married Jerry Ann Peebles, his beloved wife of 66 years, on August 13th, 1955. He was a loving and devoted father to his three sons, Donnie Kendrick, Jackson H. Kendrick, Jr. (Donna), and Jerry Dale Kendrick, Sr. (Donnette). He found immense joy coaching his sons in baseball, and never missed a game. His sons were his best friends, and their bond only grew stronger as the years passed.

His greatest joys in life were his grandchildren, Brad Kendrick, Dale Kendrick (Brooke), Brandy Sutherlin (Craig), and great-grandchildren, Nolan, Ella, Asher, Crew and Emmie.

Jack, better known as “Papaw”, treasured every moment spent with his family. His easy-going nature made him a beloved presence in the lives of his loved ones, and his knack for sharing jokes and riddles never failed to bring a smile to those around him. He loved his family, fishing, working in his garden, and watching college football, but above all, he loved being “Papaw.”

Jack proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. His legacy of commitment, love, humor and genuine care for others will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to have known him.
