Joyce
Plyler
Oct 24, 1951 — Sep 4, 2026
Glenda Joyce Plyler, 74, of Morris, Alabama passed away from the darkness of this world and gained eternal light on Friday, September 4th 2026, in the comfort of her home. Born on October 24, 1951 in Birmingham, AL, she attended Woodlawn High School and was a lifelong resident of the area.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Alton; her son, Rick (Traci) Plyler; and grandchildren, Cameron Plyler and Madison (Eli) Trisler. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Emogene Evatt; stepfather, Tom Evatt; sister, Linda Hall; and stepbrother, Tommy Evatt.
Joyce worked for many years in the daycare at First Baptist Church in Centerpoint where she gave her attention and love to all the kids under her watch and in return they loved their “Miss Joyce”. When she was younger she loved get-togethers with family and friends where she could sing and dance and share that wonderful laugh she had. She loved playing Canasta and going to Bingo with her family. She was always ready to go to the casino at a moment’s notice if someone was willing to take her. She loved feeding her gathering of squirrels, birds and deer that made their way to her yard. She was serious about playing ’Trouble’ and would regularly coax anyone nearby to play by throwing some money in the pot for the winner. Before dementia took its toll she loved doing puzzles, cooking, watching NASCAR and cheering on Alabama football. She had a huge heart for animals and loved her pets wholeheartedly through the years. Despite her condition she always remembered everyone’s name and never stopped letting people know she loved them til the end.
A special thank you to her best friend for decades, Donetta, who stood by Joyce’s side and helped take care of her needs both physically and spiritually over these past few months when her condition worsened. We couldn’t have done this without you.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday September 10th at 12:00 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens at 1591 Gadsden Hwy. Visitation with the family will precede the service at 11:00.
