Gerald Wayne Walker was born in Bear Creek, AL on June 15, 1944 to James and Christeen Walker. He was raised in Tarrant, AL. He went to Tarrant High School, Class of ‘62. Shortly upon completing college at Jacksonville State University, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Carolyn. Gerald and Carolyn raised their children, Sonda and Mark, in Center Point, AL. Then, Trussville, AL became their home in their later years.
In his career, Gerald worked as an insurance adjuster and salesman. But his spirit was in golf. Gerald was an avid golfer and loved his days on the golf course. On the greens, he met lifelong friends. A passionate hobby was repairing and selling golf clubs. The Golf Channel was always on his tv. He also enjoyed quite the collection of golf memorabilia.
However, as much as he enjoyed his golf game, it did not compare to the love that he had for his family. His later years were spent at the softball and baseball parks. Along with Carolyn, they rarely missed their grandkid's, Lindsey and Ryan, softball and baseball games. When he and Carolyn followed Sonda’s family to Fairhope, AL, he spent these final years eating good seafood, killing time at the pier, jolly riding around, and continuing to participate in the grandkids’ activities. Gerald was a loving husband, caring daddy, proud “G", and loyal friend. His children’s and grandchildren’s friends were also loved by G. On May 27, at his home in Fairhope, 31 years to the day of the loss of his son, Mark, he was healed and is now home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We can only imagine the reunion he had with his son and parents. Although he will be missed by those who know and love him, what a glorious day it will be when we are reunited with him again.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, James and Christeen Walker and his son, Mark Walker. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Carolyn Roberts Walker, daughter, Sonda Walker Justice (Brent), granddaughter, Lindsey Caroline Justice, and grandson, Ryan Mark Justice.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at noon on Monday, June 1, 2026 with visitation at 11am at Jefferson Memorial Trussville.
The family requests casual dress especially sporting your favorite golf attire.
Through the health adversities that Gerald faced in his later years, he never wavered in his belief that “God Is Bigger” as those words are written on the bracelet that he wore daily in the final decade or so of his life. We share that as Philippians 4, 6-7, 13 tells us, replace anxiety with prayer, trust in God's peace, and draw strength from Christ.
