Funeral Services for Mr. George Thompson, age 79 of Moody, will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 11:30 A.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Bradford and Pastor Anthony Bellew officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Alabama National Cemetery at 2:00 P.M.
George Mikal Thompson was born in Louisville, Kentucky to John Edward Thompson and Clemmie Faye Daugherty. He was the kindest man you would ever meet. He proudly served in Vietnam as a Naval FMF Corpsman, and is a Lifetime Member of the Howlin’ Mad Smith Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He rode with the Christian Motorcycle Riders, and loved his Harley. He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a dedicated and faithful worker. He served as a member of the Church of God at The Healing Place (Trussville) and was active in the Media and Sound Department. He retired from AT&T after 40 years as a Toll Test Technician. His love of God and his family knew no bounds. His family was his entire sun, moon, and stars. His legacy will live on with his family and those who knew and loved him best. His love for model airplanes, interesting cars, and his favorite shows and movies were lovingly shared throughout his life. He loved hard, gave everything his all, and provided for anyone that he could assist. His kindness was unfathomable, and his love for everyone brought people together. Throughout his entire life, his mission was to give everyone the most love and care that he could.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Clemmie Faye Thompson and John Edward Thompson; and his son, Mikal Ashley Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Thompson, who he was married to for 50 years. Also by his daughter, Libby Adkins and son-in-law William Adkins; and his grandchildren: Chloe’, Asheton, and Lyllah Adkins.
He will be missed by many, and loved forever. Rest easy, George - you are once again completely yourself.
Pallbearers for George Mikal Thompson will be William Adkins, Jimmy Clark, and his three grandchildren - Chloe’ Adkins, Asheton Adkins, and Lyllah Adkins (honorary).
The family would like to direct all visitors to the Alzheimer’s Association.
