Edward East

Edward E. "Gene" East, age 86, of Leeds, AL passed away on August 2, 2017. Gene retired from the Birmingham Police Department after almost 29 years of service. He served in the Marines during the Korean War and was a CW04 officer for 38 years with the Alabama National Guard. Edward was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Larry Gilbert. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janice East; his three children, David East, Rhonda Gilbert and Steve East (Laura); a sister, Patricia Faye Martin (Paul); a brother Lloyd Cleveland East (Carol); four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral for Gene will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Jefferson Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the chapel service at Jefferson Memorial's adjoining gardens. Brother Clyde Dutton is Officiating.
