Edna Fay Freeman
McKay
Aug 17, 1940 — Jul 4, 2026
Edna Fay Freeman McKay, 85, of Locust Fork, AL, passed away on July 4th, 2026. She was born on August 17th, 1941 in Birmingham, Al to Pleasant Bartley Freeman and Willie Edna Vincent Freeman. Fay is survived by her children, Larry McKay (Kasey) and Edna Edwards (Scott); and her grandchildren, Coral McKay Merrit (Perry), Adam Edwards (Hannah), Karen McKay, Harrison Edwards, Liam McKay, and McKayla Edwards.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Earl Dean McKay. She loved him faithfully and took care of him until his last breath. Together, they built a life and home that was greater than the two of them. They loved their community and all those who passed through it. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her four siblings and their spouses. She bore the weight and grief of loss throughout the years, remaining steadfast in her faith all the while. She was no stranger to life’s hardships, but persevered in joy.
Fay was a refuge, strength, and joy to those around her. She was safe and protected those she loved. She was fun and had an uncontrollable giggle once she got tickled. She sacrificed much of herself to raise her children and to help raise her grandchildren. She brought them up, sent them out, and gave them a place to return to and call home.
Fay was faithful and kind. She spoke the truth and had fun doing it. Above all, she put her faith in Jesus as her Savior. She fully believed that death is not the end of life; it is merely a transition from life on Earth to life eternal. She is now more alive than she’s ever been, rejoicing in the reality of this truth. Because of this, her family grieves with hope, hating the reality of death, but rejoicing in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service will be held at Locust Fork Baptist on Monday July 13, 2026 at 1pm. Family visitation at 11:30. Guest visitation 12-1.
She will be laid to rest beside her best friend and husband, Earl Dean McKay at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, in Trussville, AL.
