In Loving Memory of Donovan Dale German March 30, 1944 -July 23, 2025

Don German, born March 30, 1944, in Ogden, Utah, to Jerold and Marian German, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. A man of deep faith, sharp wit, and boundless warmth, Don lived a life rich in laughter, adventure, and devotion.

Don was married to the love of his life, Ileen, for 63 beautiful years. Together, they built a life filled with creativity, companionship, and countless shared journeys. From crafting decorative pieces to traveling across the country to sell them, Don and Ileen turned retirement into a joyful adventure, exploring the U.S. and making memories at every stop.

He was a proud father to Troy (deceased) and Tracy. He embraced the role of "Big Papa" to his grandchildren Katie Foy, Peyton Foy, Spencer German, and Liesel German. He was blessed with two great-granddaughters, Courtland German and Farrah German.

Don's career at Redstone Arsenal was marked by dedication and service, where he taught electronics to U.S. and international soldiers. His passion for tinkering extended beyond the classroom - he spent years repairing organs and was always up for woodworking or home improvement projects.

Quick-witted and gregarious, Don had a knack for turning everyday moments into lasting memories. He loved a good cup of coffee, a rerun of MASH*, and a challenging Sudoku puzzle. His love of history and military stories reflected his curious mind and deep respect for service.

Don's zest for life was matched only by his love for adventure. He was an avid NASCAR fan, attending races with his son-in-law Steve and brother Jeff. He also embarked on epic motorcycle journeys with his brother Greg and friend John, riding from Alabama to Alaska, Maine, and everywhere in between.

Family was Don's heart. He was a supportive father who enjoyed watching Troy wrestle and attended many state wrestling tournaments with him through the years. Don spent many nights watching Braves games with Troy and talking sports. He was Tracy's biggest cheerleader, he spent many days watching her cheer, he was the most organized father of the bride making sure he had a list for everything that could be needed for her wedding to go off without a hitch. He taught her how to "move boxes" and ensured her it was a life skill. He always provided love and support. In retirement, he embraced his role as Big Papa with enthusiasm, showing up for baseball games, football games, basketball games, and dance recitals with pride and joy for his Grandchildren.

He cherished camping trips with his family and dear friends, the Wheat family, where laughter and stories flowed freely around the fire.

Don German leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty. He was a Christian, a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a teacher, a craftsman, and a friend to many. His life was a masterclass in living fully - with humor, heart, and humility.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
