Dolores Williams Smithson passed away February 28, 2026. She was married to William M. Smithson (deceased 1998) and had four sons: Richard Lee Smithson (Brenda, d. 2014), Randal Allen Smithson (Minnie), Ronald Carl Smithson (Lindy) and Russell Earl Smithson (Tina).
Dolores was the Head Librarian for Tarrant City Library, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. She also served as President of the Jefferson County Library Association Board.
She enjoyed going to church, teaching Sunday School for many years, singing soprano in the choir, and was featured as an occasional soloist. Dolores dedicated many years to Women’s Missionary Union, delivered Meals on Wheels, and actively participated in numerous Christian ministries throughout her life.
After retirement, she spent a considerable amount of time traveling the world, engaging in various Christian mission projects, and volunteering as an aid in disaster relief with the Southern Baptist Convention. She continued to devote her life to Christ until the very end, financially supporting various ministries and spreading the gospel.
Dolores was a devout Christian, wife, and mother. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her nurturing spirit and commitment to Christ touched the lives of many, both in her community and around the world.
In addition to her immediate family, Dolores is survived by her cherished daughters-in-law and multiple beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her family takes solace in knowing that she has been reunited with her beloved husband, William, and that her spirit continues to inspire those who knew her. A funeral service will be held in her honor March 5, 2026 at Jefferson Memorial in Trussville, Alabama at 2 pm with visitation beginning at 1pm, where family and friends are invited to celebrate her life and the impact she had on all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Sumariton’s Purse , ensuring that her commitment to Christ carries on.
