David Eric Yates

Funeral Services for Mr. David Eric Yates, age 54 of Birmingham, will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. George Weeks officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining gardens.

Eric passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025 in Jefferson County. He was loving, charming, compassionate, always the first to jump up and help anyone who needed it and never met a stranger. He’d strike up a conversation with you just to talk to you. He was always trying to be funny and make people laugh, especially his wife. Growing up in Birmingham, Eric was active in sports including BMX racing, soccer, baseball, and the track and swim teams. In high school and college, he was on the debate team – which became his personality throughout life. He attended Jefferson State Community College and transferred to the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa where he graduated cum laude from Culverhouse College of Business in Healthcare Administration and Computer Science. He worked in retail and restaurants over the years from Parisians/Saks, Kay Jewelers, and various restaurants around Birmingham. In his spare time, he loved to cook, enjoyed his saltwater aquariums, planting flowers in the front yard, and taking care of our dog, Bella, by going on afternoon walks. He loved music from The Beatles and Police, and watching football on television – especially Alabama football – Roll Tide!

He is survived by his loving wife, Stacy Yates, his son, Jackson Miller, his stepchildren, Kaytie (Chris) Corley and Johnny Aycock, his mother, Brenda Moxley, and his brother, Mark (Darlene) Yates.

He was preceded in death by his father, Horace David Yates and his stepfather, David Frank Moxley, Jr.

Mark Yates, Johnny Aycock, Jackson Miller, Chris Corley, Keith Mabry and Josh Sparks will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
