David Brooks Marsh

Funeral services for Mr. David Brooks Marsh, age 86, of Birmingham, Alabama, will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, with Rev. James Long officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining gardens.

David passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Kirkwood by the River. He was born on August 7, 1939, in Inglenook, Alabama, where he was raised and later graduated from Phillips High School in 1957. He proudly served eight years in the Alabama National Guard.

David began his career with Hayes International in Birmingham before joining the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a computer programmer. During his time at UAB, he met Joyce Simmons, who also worked there. Six months after their first date, they were married on April 15, 1967, at Eastlake Methodist Church. David retired from UAB in 1996, having served as Assistant to the Controller.

In his retirement, David enjoyed restoring early-model Mustangs and later found great pleasure in working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Trussville since July of 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Simmons Marsh; his son, Brian Marsh; daughter-in-law, Carrie Marsh; and granddaughter, Teagan Marsh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Eliene and George Burke Marsh, and his son, Michael Brett Marsh.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. until service time at 12:00 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home.
