It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Willis Wright, III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Charles passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2026, just one week shy of his 77th birthday. Born on March 8, 1949, in Atlanta, Georgia, he graced the world with his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness.
Charles was a man of great intellect and achievement. He graduated from Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama, and continued his education with a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Troy State University. Not stopping there, Charles pursued a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Auburn University and later achieved his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University. His commitment to education and his field was a testament to his dedication and passion for helping others.
For forty-five years, Charles worked as a pharmacist, leaving a lasting impact on the many communities he served. His diverse career spanned roles in small-town pharmacies, pharmaceutical sales, and mentoring the next generation of pharmacists. His colleagues and those he served will remember him as a beacon of knowledge, compassion, and integrity.
Charles's life was rich with interests and affiliations that spoke to his character and passions. He was an active member of Leeds Valley Church and contributed generously to the Auburn Alumni Association and Greater Birmingham Auburn Club. A proud member of the National Rifle Association and Gideons International, Charles lived a life of service and dedication.
A lover of the great outdoors, Charles found joy in hunting, fishing, golfing, and cheering for Auburn football. His laughter and enthusiasm were infectious, and his presence brought warmth to every gathering. His benevolence knew no boundaries, and he was always willing to extend a hand to those in need. His kindness and generosity touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and compassion.
Charles was predeceased by his father, Charles Willis Wright, Jr., and his parents, Foster and Mary E. Bender. He is survived by his devoted spouse, Brenda Wright; his loving children, Shanna Smith (Chris) and Drayton Green (Mallory); and his cherished grandchildren, Lance Smith, Emily Green, and Martin Green. His family was the center of his world, and he loved them deeply.
A memorial service to celebrate Charles's life will be held on March 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM Eastern time at Lakeview Memory Gardens, located at 3800 US Hwy 280-431, Phenix City, AL 36867. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Aveanna Home Health and Hospice and the Palliative Care Unit at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital for their compassionate care during Charles's final days.
Serving as pallbearers are James Flowers, Drayton Green, Tony Howell, Brian Smith, Chris Smith, and Henry Turnbull. Lance Smith will serve as honorary pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made Aveanna Home Health and Hospice and Leeds Valley Church (Leeds, Alabama) in Charles's memory. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
May he rest in peace, eternally surrounded by the love and beauty he so generously shared in life.
