Rick Hanby passed away peacefully in Birmingham, Alabama on November 15, 2024 at the age of 78. He was born on September 24, 1946 in Birmingham, Alabama to Laura Edweena Hanby and John Joseph Hanby, Sr., who preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Lilly Hanby; his brother, John Joseph Hanby, Jr (Donna); his sister, Janet Smith (Mike); his children, Laurie Burns, Angie Morris (Robert), Tim Hanby, Jonathan Hanby (Leigh); grandchildren, Blake Morris (Jessica), Jessie Morris, Connor Morris, Joey Burns, Jack Hanby, Eli Hanby, Jed Hanby; great grandchildren, Everly Morris, Rhett Morris; and numerous cousins, family members, and friends.
Rick was a proud graduate of Jacksonville State University and received a Bachelor of Science in business in 1968. He quickly joined the Alabama National Guard to serve his country for many years. He excelled in his career as a salesman in his hometown of Birmingham, where he became a wonderful provider for his beloved family and forged so many friendships in his community.
A devoted Catholic, he loved his church and gave all his blessings to the glory of God and his savior, Jesus Christ. Rick loved the water, which included many beach trips fishing off the coast and retiring at his favorite place on God's Earth, Highland Lake Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made in Rick's memory to the Salvation Army or The Jimmie Hale Mission.
Following services, all are welcome to join the family at the Ryan home (133 Parkway Drive, Trussville, AL 35173) for a meal and fellowship.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 20th, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, 1591 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham, AL, 35235.
