Billy Joe "Bill" Burnham, 92, passed away on February 3, 2024, in Birmingham, Alabama.

Bill Burnham was born on October 13, 1931, in Birmingham, AL, to Joseph Capers Burnham and Mable Bland Burnham.

Bill graduated from West End High School and went on to earn a BS in Business Administration from Florence State College (UNA). He started his career as a Purchasing Manager and retired after a long career with Zurn Industries. During this time, Bill was also active with the Purchasing Management Association of Alabama where he served on the board and was later selected as President, serving from 1982-1983.

Bill married Mallie Sue Willis on September 7, 1952 in Russellville, AL. She was the love of his life and Bill talked about her, their wedding and adventures until his final days. The couple had 2 children, Monte Burnham and Michele Burham Alfano.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1955 - 1962. He received a commission and served two years in Munich, Germany as a Lieutenant in the Finance and Accounting Division. He and Sue had great memories of their time in Munich and traveling around Europe.

Bill was best known for his good character, kindness and generosity. He was good-hearted and the most charming gentleman. He was a long-time member of Huffman United Methodist Church and the Loyalty Sunday School class; prayer and reading The Upper Room were a part of his routine. He always enjoyed plants and gardening. He was a Master Gardner with the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and served in many areas. Bill won awards for his beautiful Camellias. He shared a love of the University of Alabama with his family and friends and also had fond memories of UNA and supported them through the years. Bill was an avid reader and would love to share about the book he was reading. His beloved dog, Oliver, was a big part of his life and he also enjoyed German culture, antique cars and had collections of art, coins, pocketknives and steins. His grandchildren were a great source of pride for "Daddy Bill".

Bill is survived by Monte Burnham - son (Dawn), Michele Burham Alfano - daughter (John), Ashley Burnham York (Cory) - granddaughter, Chase Burnham (Erin) - grandson, Ethan York - great-grandson, Charlotte York - great-granddaughter, Audrey Burnham - great-granddaughter, Will Alfano - grandson (Alexandra), Mallie Claire Alfano - granddaughter.

Bill is preceded in death by Joseph Capers Burnham - father, Mable Bland Burnham - mother, Sue Willis Burnham - spouse
