Barbara Harris Jones Walker passed away on April 19, 2026, at the age of 91.
She was born in Wetumpka, Alabama, to the late Cecil and Bernice Harris. After moving to Birmingham, she attended Woodlawn High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Roland Jones. They were married in 1953, and together they raised four daughters: Karen Harford (Mike), Donna Poe (Keith), Sandy Green (Steve), and Jenny Montgomery (Bill).
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Alice Padgett, and her first husband, Bill Jones. In 1992, she married Jack Walker and gained an extended family.
She is survived by her daughters; her grandchildren Erin Brodrecht (Robert), Ryan Poe (Nicki), Major Green, Harris Green (Kaylan), Hannah Hurst (Bailey), and Braden Montgomery; and her great-grandchildren Mia, Holden, Ellie, Hannah, Abby, Caleb, and Beau.
Barbara was a faithful member of the church of Christ throughout her life, worshiping with congregations at 77th Street, Huffman, Pell City, and Edwards Lake. She retired in 1995 from Alabama Central Credit Union, where she worked for many years. Barbara’s gorgeous smile created friendships wherever she went, and she always enjoyed socializing.
Barbara loved the outdoors and took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens. She enjoyed gardening, playing sports—especially golf—spending time at the lake, and traveling with Jack, including many cruises together. She was also an avid fan of Alabama football and enjoyed watching and attending Atlanta Braves games. One of her simple joys was keeping bird feeders in her yard, especially for the hummingbirds she loved to watch.
She would often say she had been very blessed. We were all certainly blessed by her.
