Barbara Pendley Awtrey, currently of Hiawassee, GA, and more formerly known as a resident of Pinson, AL, passed away. She was born on September 1, 1935, and went to be with her Savior and Lord on September 8, 2026. She leaves behind two sons, David(Lynne) and Steve (Virginia), her grandchildren (Luke (Sierra), Rachel (Nathan), Ashlyn and Alex) and her great-grandchildren (Judah, Grace and Canaan), and her wonderful nieces and nephews. Barbara was a devoted employee of South Central Bell for ten years and spent 25 years as a kindergarten teacher at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Her love for children was second to none. She loved her family and would make great sacrifices to provide everything needed to build a happy home. Barbara loved watching sports and loved conversations with family and friends. She loved the simple things in life and her sweet spirit was her strength. Barbara loved Central Park, Ridgecrest, and FBC Pinson churches where she faithfully served the Lord through the years. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mom, caring friend, and a loyal church member. Known as a prayer warrior, Barbara devoted herself to praying for others. Her greatest love in life was Jesus. She truly honored Him daily by living out the fruits of the Spirit. We will miss her greatly. She will be honored with a Celebration of Life service on Sunday, September 13th, 2026, at First Baptist Church Pinson. Visitation is 2-4pm with a service at 4pm. Her son, David Awtrey, is officiating the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored for donations to be given to FBC Pinson Kindergarten and Daycare Program to honor Barbara's many years as a kindergarten teacher.
