Obituary

Allen Evans Crew, 77, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at UAB Hospital. Born on November 23, 1948, Allen lived a life rooted in family, loyalty, and a deep love for the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret Allen Crew and James Thomas Crew III, and his brother, Michael. Allen is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Patricia Crew. Their love story began as high school sweethearts when he was just 16 years old and grew into a lifetime of unwavering love. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Crew Van Dyke; his daughter, Amy Netherland (Nick); his son, Ryan (Haley); and his treasured grandchildren, Kate, Cade, Brooks, and Molly Paige, each of whom brought him immense pride and immeasurable joy.Allen attended Woodlawn High School, where he was a proud member of the Woodlawn Warblers chorus. An exceptional student, he graduated a year ahead of his class before attending the University of Alabama, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1971.Throughout his career, Allen worked for many years with Allstate before later working at various boat dealerships where he combined his strong work ethic with his lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Allen found his greatest happiness in the simple things—quiet mornings in the woods, a fishing rod in his hand, dogs at his side, and time spent at hunting camp with his son and cherished friends. Around the campfire, sharing stories and laughter with lifelong buddies, he was truly at home. Those who knew him knew that these moments weren’t just hobbies—they were where he felt most at peace.Although he loved hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, nothing meant more to Allen than his family. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren, delighting in watching them grow, celebrating their accomplishments, and making memories they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Those who knew Allen knew he wasn’t one to sugarcoat his opinions. He often insisted on doing things his own way—but beneath that gruff exterior was a fiercely loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose love was steady and unquestionable. Allen will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast loyalty, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he cultivated over a lifetime, and the stories that will continue to be told around hunting camp for years to come. The family will hold visitation at Cahaba Springs Presbyterian Church in Trussville on Saturday, July 18, 9:30-10 AM, with a celebration of life at 10:00 AM; reception to follow.
