La Rue Ramey Latham

La Rue Ramey Latham of Birmingham passed away Sunday, March 23 at home surrounded by her family. She was 82 years of age.

La Rue was born on December 26, 1931, to Emma Robbins Ramey and R.D. Ramey in Brilliant, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Daniel Ramey, and sister Doris Ramey Pruitt. She grew up in Winfield, Alabama, and graduated from Winfield High School. Upon attending Florence State Teachers College, she met and married her husband of 62 years, George Walter Latham. After George completed service in the Air Force, they settled in Birmingham where they lived for 58 years. They had two daughters Katrina and Rosamond.

La Rue earned a Bachelors Degree in Education and Masters Degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She worked as a high school business teacher at West Birmingham Christian School, and as a real estate agent at Johnny Davidson Realty before owning her own real estate company, Latham Realty.

She enjoyed reading, music, travel, entertaining and spending time with her grandchildren Kirsten and Daniel.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, most recently at Riverchase Church of Christ.

La Rue is survived by her husband George Latham; daughters Katrina Tuggle (Mark) and Rosamond Latham; grandchildren Kirsten Tuggle and Daniel Tuggle; and many dear relatives and friends.

Her funeral will be held this Friday, March 28 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville with visitation at 1:00 followed by the service at 2:00.
